Exciting 2017 Releases!

There are some AMAZING releases coming out this year so I thought it would be fun to post some of the releases I’m most looking forward to! Thanks to Netgalley I actually have quite a few of these as ARCs, the only problem is I still haven’t gotten around to reading them!!!

One of the top releases I can’t wait to get my hands on definitely has to beee……

  • Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken

Although I thought Passenger was a little overhyped I really enjoyed reading it and the ending of Passenger and me itching to get my hands on Wayfarer! Also the covers for this series are sooo pretty!

  • Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare

Okay so I know I haven’t even read the first book in this series even though I purchased it the same week of its release, but I’m still pretty psyched for this release! who knows maybe it’ll motivate me to actually get on with the series?

  • King’s cage by Victoria Aveyard

30226723

So if you’ve been with me for a bit you’ll remember my fangirling when writing the review for Red Queen, it got quite mixed opinions but I still LOVED it! Have I read Glass Sword do you ask? Nope… But again maybe I’ll be able to get back into this series once there’s a hype about the release of King’s Cage.

  • Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth

Initially I was pretty curious about the release of Carve the Mark, I can’t really say excited because I’ve only read Divergent. BUT nevertheless I still felt like it would be worth checking it out… Recently I read about a controversy surrounding the villanous characters in this book and I don’t really want to get into it here. Let’s just say I might skip this one…

  • Gilded Cage by Vic James

30258320

The synopsis for this had me HOOKEEEEDD. It sounded like something RIGHT up my street.

Here’s the synopsis: (taken from Goodreads:

‘Our world belongs to the Equals — aristocrats with magical gifts — and all commoners must serve them for ten years. But behind the gates of England’s grandest estate lies a power that could break the world.

A girl thirsts for love and knowledge.

Abi is a servant to England’s most powerful family, but her spirit is free. So when she falls for one of the noble-born sons, Abi faces a terrible choice. Uncovering the family’s secrets might win her liberty, but will her heart pay the price?

A boy dreams of revolution.

Abi’s brother, Luke, is enslaved in a brutal factory town. Far from his family and cruelly oppressed, he makes friends whose ideals could cost him everything. Now Luke has discovered there may be a power even greater than magic: revolution.

And an aristocrat will remake the world with his dark gifts.

He is a shadow in the glittering world of the Equals, with mysterious powers no one else understands. But will he liberate—or destroy?’

I already have an ARC of this but surprise! I haven’t gotten to it yet…

  • The Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova

31549513.jpg

This initially caught my attention because it’s a YA, steampunk which I haven’t seen in a WHILE. I also like the premise, the synopsis: (taken from Goodreads)

‘Her vengeance. His vision.

Ari lost everything she once loved when the Five Guilds’ resistance fell to the Dragon King. Now, she uses her unparalleled gift for clockwork machinery in tandem with notoriously unscrupulous morals to contribute to a thriving underground organ market. There isn’t a place on Loom that is secure from the engineer turned thief, and her magical talents are sold to the highest bidder as long as the job defies their Dragon oppressors.

Cvareh would do anything to see his sister usurp the Dragon King and sit on the throne. His family’s house has endured the shame of being the lowest rung in the Dragons’ society for far too long. The Alchemist Guild, down on Loom, may just hold the key to putting his kin in power, if Cvareh can get to them before the Dragon King’s assassins.

When Ari stumbles upon a wounded Cvareh, she sees an opportunity to slaughter an enemy and make a profit off his corpse. But the Dragon sees an opportunity to navigate Loom with the best person to get him where he wants to go.

He offers her the one thing Ari can’t refuse: A wish of her greatest desire, if she brings him to the Alchemists of Loom.’

( Received an ARC for this as well, good God this is getting ridiculous at this point :’s)

  • Heartless by Marissa Meyer

Everyone in the book blogging community has at least heard of Marissa Meyer or at least come across her Lunar Chronicles series! That series is still circling the book blogosphere, I really wanted to read it but I wanted to buy the whole series and marathon it. So I have yet to read it , but when I read the synopsis. To my understanding this is a Alice in Wonderland retelling focusing on The Queen of Hearts. Guess who already has an ARC of this on her Netgalley shelf… ME. I’m still yet to read it, but I should get to it soooooon!

This post was both exciting yet depressing to make! I realised I pretty much own half of the books on my list… Hopefully this will motivate me to get started on completing this list! By the way would you guys be interested in seeing what’s on my Netgalley shelf? I have over 50 books on there I think, but I’ve never hauled them.

  1. I haven’t started the series for Wayfarer, The Dark Artifacts, or King’s Cage yet but I’m looking forward to them this year! I’ve heard great things about The Alchemist’s of Loom and can’t wait for it to come out so I can enjoy it too.

I read Heartless and oh my goodness yes. Read it. It’s SO good! I was lucky enough to be chosen for a digital ARC of Gilded Cage and let me just tell you the synopsis does not do it justice.

As far as Carve The Mark, I’ve heard from multiple people who received ARCs of it that there’s loads of harmful representation in it and I refuse to read it because of that.

Hope your weekend is going well! 🤓

    1. I’m even more excited to read Gilded Cage and Heartless now! In terms of Carve the Mark I completely agree, I read about it online after hearing about the controversy and I’ve decided not to support any author using that trope. It’s so overused and frankly offensive.

  2. Gilded Cage sounds super interesting! Lord of Shadows I’m super excited for as I’ve nearly finished Lady Midnight (finally, haha) and I still need to read the first book in the Passenger series. I’m optimistically curious about Carve The Mark – I have high expectations and I hope Roth delivers!

      1. The post seemed to contain spoilers so I didn’t read it in depth and in any case I won’t be buying Carve The Mark – I’ll be borrowing it. I understand the trope of a dark skinner aggressor but I think for this one I’m going to read it regardless and form my own opinions. I don’t like jumping on the hate train without getting to read the book in context – but thank you for making me aware of potential problems with the narrative.

      2. I completely understand, but in my case I’ve never come across a story with a black aggressor and liked the representation. I just find that it ruins the story for me. BUT at the same time you’re not buying the book and also I definitely understand that you don’t want to just condemn a book without reading it!

      3. After my experience with people bashing And I Darken for it’s LGBT representation (I still don’t understand why and I’m part of the community) I try and keep myself as open minded as possible. I’ll definitely address it in the review, regardless of whether I like it or not, though!

    1. I haven’t personally read the book, but I know that the villainous characters are black. The book uses this trope of a black, primitive, savage race that are brutal and aggressive antagonists.

I personally feel like it feeds into white supremacy and I’m not here for that. It’s caused quite a stir, but frankly I’m disappointed in the author. She’s so successful and established and she has a huge platform (and responsibility). I just don’t agree with the use of that trope, and so I wouldn’t knowingly support any author using it.

      1. Yes! I’d recommend doing that as well, I got so confused reading COHF because I read them before The Infernal Devices, but once I’d finished both sets off books, the plot line made so much more sense. I need to buy Lady Midnight now that it’s out in standard paperback in the UK!

  3. YES! I am SO excited for Dark Artifices #2. I’m a die-hard Shadowhunters lover, LOL. And I’m excited to see that there’s another Red Queen book coming out too! I’ve only read the first one which I loved like crazy and Glass Sword has been patiently waiting for me.
